Boudoir Photoshoot

There is nothing that compares to the empowerment of a boudoir photoshoot. That empowerment is something I have loved being able to foster in the everyday mama. Not everyone is comfortable showing quite as much skin as in this session and that is perfectly okay! You can still do a boudoir photoshoot and get all the benefits without feeling quite so exposed. Some women really find it empowering to show more skin while others find it empowering to remain a little more modest.

While my studio does not have a traditional boudoir photoshoot set up with a bed, it does offer loads of room to get creative.

I was so excited for this session as it was one of my first boudoir photoshoots. I have had a few more since and the conversations I've had with these mamas has been healing to say the least.

More than one of my boudoir clients said to me after their session that they didn't know they had that level of beauty and power within them. The shoot ended up being an eye opening experience for them.

I think it is important to note that a boudoir photoshoot is NOT about having a perfect body or trying to appear that way.

The boudoir photoshoot is about self acceptance.

Self Acceptance and the Empowerment Photoshoot

I had another client that wanted to be a bit more covered up for her empowerment photoshoot. She wore a button up over her lacy outfit and it was beautiful. She'd had children and experienced loss. Her body has lived through so much. As we were looking back at her photos, she told me that in her 20s she would have criticized her body so deeply in these photos. For the lines and the scars and the stretch marks and any other slight "imperfection". But now, seeing this body from someone else's perspective, it was a reminder of just how much her body has been through. It is a signal of her strength, not some kind of weakness. The photos that I had taken gave her this sense of strength and acceptance. Acceptance for her body as it is right now.

Being able to accept ourselves as we are allows us to be more present in our lives and truly live out our purpose, whatever that may be. It allows us to release some of the weight that we carry, making life feel a little lighter. It is profound. Getting to play a part in fostering that in other moms? That means everything to me.

The experience for me as the photographer has been really emotional too. It is emotional to see these beautiful, strong, caring women come to my studio and open up to this kind of experience. It is emotional to hear their stories and how they haven't always felt beautiful or confident. They haven't always felt their sexiness. And it is emotional to show them what we have created and watch that fire ignite in them. To watch them realize that their body is beautiful and worthy and always has been. To realize their body is their home.

I have felt so connected to this work, to these empowerment photoshoots. As a mom, I have felt the same things. I've neglected myself and my body at times in order to care for those that I love. I understand how profound of an experience something like this is.

Making the intentional choice to take a bit of time to focus on you and your body is one of the biggest gifts you can give yourself. You deserve your focus and attention just as much as everyone else. It is personal growth that you can see reflected in every area of your life. Making the time for that, investing in that is a gift not only for you, but for those you love as well. You can't show up as your best if you are in a constant battle with yourself and your body. You can't care for your loved ones to the best of your ability if you have been neglected, if you haven't had time for yourself.

What I hear from the moms who have done a boudoir photoshoot with me tends to be something along the lines of "I haven't felt this beautiful in such a long time". Even if you aren't super feminine, feeling beautiful and confident tends to make us feel more authentic as women. You can brush that off and think "I don't need to feel beautiful" or "I'm not the kind of woman that feels beautiful", but I promise, it is within you and you deserve it. This experience is deeper than physical beauty. It is soul-deep personal growth. Every woman I have done an empowerment photoshoot with has left the studio standing a little taller. Feeling a little more confident. That confidence doesn't come from me or my team or my studio. It comes from within.

A boudoir photoshoot may feel far outside of your comfort zone. It can feel daunting. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is just outside of our comfort zones.

My team and I will always do everything we can to make you feel as comfortable as possible in the studio. You can wear whatever you feel best in. We will reassure you and give you a safe space. We can go at your pace. This shoot is your time.

This Minneapolis boudoir photographer believes that boudoir is for all women. This is not necessarily for moms with a "perfect" body. This is for you as you are now. For the body that is perfectly yours. We tend to be our own worst critics. You deserve to feel acceptance. You deserve to feel confident and sexy and empowered and at peace with yourself.
